The Miami Marlins took the first game of a 3 game set yesterday against the Cincinnati Reds and will try to make it 2 when they send the lefty Adam Conley to the mound today at Marlins Park. Conley has been pitching well, going 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA and a WHIP of just 0.98 in his last 3 outings, and Miami is 5-1 in his last 6 starts against the American League Central. The Reds will counter with another southpaw, John Lamb. Lamb has struggled, going 0-1 in his last 3 with a 7.47 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. Lamb was lit up in his last start, yielding 8 runs on 8 hits in 4-1/3 innings, resulting in a 12-1 trouncing by the Washington Nationals. Cincinnati is awful on the road with a record of 14-30 and they are 1-4 in their last 5 in Miami. The Marlins can hit lefties. They are 8-2 in their last 10 against them and they should get this one.

The Chicago Cubs will try to get back on track when they travel to PNC Park tonight to open a 3 game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jake Arrieta will get the call for the Cubs and he is 12-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.33 and a WHIP of 1.06. Arrieta has been spectacular at PNC Park, going 4-0 with an ERA of just 1.85 in 6 career starts. Chicago has dominated the Pirates, winning their last 7 in Pittsburgh and taking 13 out of the last 16 meetings. The lefty Francisco Liriano takes the hill for Pittsburgh tonight and he has struggled in 2016, going 5-8 with an ERA of 5.34 and a WHIP of 1.65. The Cubs have faced Liriano twice this season and clobbered him, putting up 12 runs in 10-1/3 innings. The Pirates are a dismal 1-6 in Liriano’s last 7 starts and 0-4 in his last 4 home outings.
