The Cleveland Indians will have payback on their minds after being humiliated in front of their home crowd last night by the Chicago White Sox, 9-1. The two teams will meet for the second leg of a 4-game set tonight at Progressive Field and Cleveland will turn to Jefry Rodríguez to even the score. Rodríguez has pitched well despite being 0-1. His ERA is only 2.13 with a stingy WHIP of 0.79. Chicago will give the nod to Lucas Giolito, who is 2-1 but has an elevated ERA of 5.32 with a 1.44 WHIP. Giolito was 0-2 last year against the Tribe, with a 7.36 ERA, and that ‘s not good. Despite last night’s loss, the Indians are 24-9 in their last 33 against the White Sox and 10-3 in their last 13 meetings against them at Progressive Field. The Tribe bounces back.
TONIGHT’S PICK: CLEVELAND INDIANS
Month: May 2019
Monday MLB Pick
It took the Atlanta Braves extra innings yesterday to dispose of the Miami Marlins and then they had to board a flight for Los Angeles to open a 3-game set with the Dodgers which is always difficult to do. Atlanta will send Kevin Gausman to the rubber. Gausman is 1-2 with a 4.83 ERA and will be working on just two days’ rest after being ejected in Friday’s game with Miami after 1-2/3 innings of work. Los Angeles will have Walker Buehler on the hill. Buehler is 3-0, with an ERA that could be better at 5.22, but the Dodgers are still 6-2 in his last 8 starts. Head to head, Los Angeles has had their way with Atlanta, winning 28 of the last 39 meetings and 21 of the last 29 at Chavez Ravine.
TONIGHT’S PICK: LOS ANGELES DODGERS
Sunday MLB Pick
The New York Yankees will have one of the best young arms on the hill in Domingo Germán, when they host the Minnesota Twins today at the Stadium. Germán is 5-1, with a 2.56 ERA and a WHIP of only 0.85. The Twins will counter with the ex-Yankee Michael Pineda and this is why he isn’t in pinstripes anymore. Pineda is 2-2 with a 6.21 ERA and in his last three turns, his ERA has ballooned to 9.64. The Bombers have won 39 of the last 51 meetings in the Bronx against the Twins and that’s it.
TODAY’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES
Saturday MLB Pick
The Atlanta Braves have been dominating the Miami Marlins, winning 16 of the last 21 meetings. Tonight there will be a pitching mismatch when the two teams meet again at Marlins Park for the second game of a 3-game set. The Braves will send Mike Soroka to the rubber and over his last 3 turns he is 2-1, with a 1.62 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. The Marlins will send Trevor Richards to the hill and over his last 3 starts he is winless, with a bloated ERA of 7.80 and a 1.60 WHIP. Atlanta should win this one.
TONIGHT’S PICK: ATLANTA BRAVES
Friday MLB Pick
Chris Sale is very familiar with Guaranteed Rate Field and that is where he will be tapping the rubber tonight when the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox play Game 2 of a 4-game set. Sale has yet to record a victory, at 0-5 with a 6.30 ERA, but that should change tonight. Sale is 43-24 in his old haunts and despite last night’s loss, the Red Sox are 9-5 in their last 14 meetings with the White Sox and 10-6 in their last 16 on the southside. The White Sox will have Reynaldo López on the hill and if Boston can’t get to this guy, they do have issues. López is 2-3 with a 6.03 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. Boston gets it done.
TONIGHT’S PICK: BOSTON RED SOX
Thursday MLB Pick
The Tampa Bay Rays lost both games in a double header yesterday to the Kansas City Royals but look for them to bounce back when the two teams meet again in an early one today at Kauffman Stadium. The Rays will send the flame thrower Charlie Morton to the hill, who is a perfect 3-0, with an ERA of just 2.76 and a WHIP of only 1.13. The Royals will counter with southpaw Danny Duffy and he is 0-1, with an elevated ERA of 5.40, a 1.60 WHIP, and the Royals are 1-5 in his last 6 starts. Tampa can hit lefties, going 5-0 in their 5 road games against them.
TODAY’S PICK: TAMPA BAY RAYS
Wednesday NHL Pick
If the New York Islanders fall to the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at PNC Arena, and go down 3-0, it’s pretty much over and they know it, so losing is not an option. The Islanders have not been getting it done on their home ice but on the road it’s a different story. New York is 5-0 in their last 5 road games and they are 5-1 in their last 6 trips to PNC Arena. Add to that, the road team is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two clubs. A wager on the Islanders is warranted.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK ISLANDERS
