The Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals will be playing a day/night doubleheader today at Nationals Park. In Game 2, southpaw Patrick Corbin is scheduled to be on the hill for the Nationals and Kyle Freeland will start for the Rockies. Freeland is not what he was a year ago, mainly due to a blister on his throwing hand. He is a dismal 2-7, with an elevated ERA of 7.62, and a 1.65 WHIP. The Rockies are 1-4 in Freeland’s last 5 starts and 1-5 in his last 6 turns on the road. Corbin is paying dividends since being acquired from Arizona in the off-season. He is 7-5, with a 3.40 ERA, and a 1.16 WHIP. The Nats are 5-1 in Corbin’s last 6 starts and 5-0 in his last 5 turns at Nationals Park. Colorado has struggled against the National League East going 1-7 in their last 8 and they are 1-5 in their last 6 against lefties.
TONIGHT’S PICK: WASHINGTON NATIONALS – GAME 2

The Milwaukee Brewers have had problems with the bottom dwelling Cincinnati Reds, losing the last 4 meetings. Tonight they will meet again for the second game of a 3-game set at Miller Park and will have Zach Davies on the hill. Davies has been nothing short of spectacular, with a record of 8-2, a 2.79 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and over his last 3, it gets even better. He is 1-0 with a ridiculous 0.50 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. Now that’s delivering. The Reds counter with Tanner Roark. Roark has had issues. He is 5-6, with a 3.97 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP, and over his last 3, he is winless with a bloated ERA of 7.16 and a 1.71 WHIP. The Brewers are 6-1 in Davies’ last 7 home starts overall and 5-0 in his last 5 turns at Miller Park against the Reds. The Brew Crew get it done.
TONIGHT’S PICK: MILWAUKEE BREWERS

The Minnesota Twins should be looking over their shoulders because the Cleveland Indians are breathing down their necks, sitting just 3 games behind them for the Al Central lead. Tonight the Indians will be north of the border for a match-up with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. The rebuilding Jays are just 18-30 at home this year and have called up Ryan Borucki from the Minors. Borucki has been rehabbing an elbow injury and will be making his 2019 debut. In his rookie season last year, he was 4-6 with a 3.87 ERA, and the Jays were 1-5 in his last 6 starts. Mike Clevinger will get the nod for the Indians and he has been lights out. Over his last 3 turns, Clevinger is 2-0, with an ERA of only 1.06, and a 1.00 WHIP. Cleveland has been on fire, winning 23 of their last 31, and swept the Jays in a 4-game set back in April. Consider the Tribe.
TONIGHT’S PICK: CLEVELAND INDIANS

The New York Yankees have been crushing the ball and will go for a series sweep over the struggling Colorado Rockies today at The Stadium. The Rockies have lost 6 straight and 13 of their last 15. They will turn to Germán Márquez to try to get them back on track. Márquez is 8-5, with a 5.12 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, and has not pitched well over his last 3 turns, going 0-2 with an elevated ERA of 11.66 and a 1.84 WHIP. The Yanks, who have won 5 straight, will hand the ball to the southpaw James Paxton. Paxton is 5-4, with a 3.94 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and over his last 3, he is 0-1 with an ERA of only 2.50 and a 1.44 WHIP. The Rockies struggle in the Bronx, going 1-5 in their last 6 and on the road they are 0-4 in their last 4 against lefties. The Bombers stay hot.
TODAY’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES

If you thought the San Francisco Giants were done for the season, think again. This team is red hot. The Giants have won 7 straight and 9 of their last 10, and a Wild Card spot is within their grasp. Today they will go for 3 in a row against the visiting New York Mets in a matinée at Oracle Park. Jeff Samardzija will take the rubber for the Giants. He has pitched well, going 7-7, with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. San Francisco has won 4 straight at home and since June 1st, they have erupted, going 27-15. The Mets will counter with Walker Lockett. Lockett was recalled from AAA Syracuse and has had 2 starts this year in the Bigs. To say his numbers are horrendous might not big a strong enough word. In his 2 turns, Lockett is 0-1 with a bloated ERA of 11.74 and a 1.70 WHIP. The Giants should be able to feast on this guy today.
TODAY’S PICK: SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

The American League Central leading Minnesota Twins snapped their 3-game skid yesterday by knocking off the visiting Oakland Athletics in the first game of their 4-game set. The A’s, who had won 6 straight prior to yesterday’ s loss, will send Chris Bassitt to the rubber. Bassitt has pitched well, with a record of 6-4, a 3.98 ERA, and a 1.22 WHIP, but in his last four Friday starts the Athletics are 0-4. The Twins will counter with their All-Star flamethrower, Jake Odorizzi. Odorizzi has been lights out, at 11-4, with a 3.06 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and he is unbeaten at Target Field this year. Odorizzi is 6-0 at home, with a 2.27 ERA, a stingy WHIP of 0.92, and Minnesota is 16-5 in his last 21 turns overall. Consider the Twins.
