Month: July 2019
Sunday MLB Pick
The Cleveland Indians will try to take a 6 game winning streak into the All-Star break when they conclude a quick 2-game set with the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The Reds will try to cool off the Indians when they send Tyler Mahle to the rubber. Mahle is winless in his last 5 turns and is just 2-8 on the season with a 4.36 ERA. Trevor Bauer will get the nod for the Indians. Bauer is 7-6, with a 3.74 ERA, and Cleveland is 5-0 in his last 5 starts. The Indians have owned the Reds, going 6-1 in their last 7 meetings overall and 5-0 in their last 5 in Cincinnati. Cleveland is hot, ride them ’til they’re not.
TODAY’S PICK: CLEVELAND INDIANS
Saturday MLB Pick
The New York Yankees are starting to pull away in the AL East, winning 8 out of their last 10 games and notching 78 runs during that span. Today they will go for 3 straight against the Tampa Bay Rays and a series win when they play the third game of a 4-game set at Tropicana Field. C.C. Sabathia will get the nod for the Yanks. Over his last 3 turns, he is 2-1, with a 4.32 ERA, a 1.62 WHIP, and New York is 12-3 in Sabathia’s last 15 starts against Tampa. Blake Snell will be tapping the rubber for the Rays and he has been getting lit up, going 1-2 in his last 3 turns with a soaring ERA of 13.97, a 2.17 WHIP, and with the way the Yankees have been crushing the ball, that doesn’t bode well for Tampa. Consider the Bombers.
TODAY’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES
Friday MLB Pick
The St. Louis Cardinals will open a 3-game set against the red hot San Francisco Giants tonight at Oracle Park and if anybody can cool off San Fran it’s the Cardinals. The young upstart, Dakota Hudson, will tap the rubber for St. Louis and he has been on his mark. Hudson is 6-4, with a 3.40 ERA, a 1.51 WHIP, and the Cardinals are 7-1 in his last 8 starts. Drew Pomeranz will get the nod for San Francisco and his numbers are not good. Pomeranz is 2-8, with 6.25 ERA, a 1.72 WHIP, and the Giants are just 2-5 in his last 7 starts. The Cardinals have had the upper hand against the Giants, going 4-1 in their last 5 meetings overall and 7-3 in their last 10 trips to San Francisco.
TONIGHT’S PICK: SAINT LOUIS CARDINALS
Thursday MLB Pick
It took the Minnesota Twins 12 innings to get things done yesterday against the Oakland Athletics, but they did it, and they will go for two in a row today when the two clubs meet again in an early one at Ring Central Coliseum. All-Star José Berríos will be tapping the rubber for Minnesota and he has been lights out, going 8-4, with a 2.89 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and the Twins are 6-1 in his last 7 road starts. Oakland is expected to counter with Tanner Anderson and he has been getting lit up, going 0-3, with a bloated 7.13 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, and the Athletics are 0-4 in his last 4 starts. I like the Twins in this situation.
TONIGHT’S PICK: MINNESOTA TWINS
Wednesday MLB Pick
The New York Yankees fell to the New York Mets yesterday, 4-2, and chalk that up to a little bit of a hangover from playing in London over the weekend. The Yanks are expected to get one of their top flamethrowers, Domingo Germán, back from the IL today and his numbers are impressive, going 9-2 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. The Metropolitans will counter with the lefty, Jason Vargas. He is 3-3 on the season, with a 3.66 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Vargas could be in for a rough night because the Yankees crush lefties. They are 5-0 in their last 5 against southies and 7-3 in their last 10 against the Mets in Queens.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES
Tuesday MLB Pick
The Boston Red Sox need to get back on track in a hurry, sitting 11 games back of the New York Yankees, and that will happen tonight when they pay a visit to Rogers Centre for a 3-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto will send Trent Thornton to the hill and his numbers aren’t good. Thornton is 2-5, with a 4.60 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and the Jays are 1-5 in his last 6 starts against the American League East. Boston will give the nod to David Price. Price is back to what he does best – deliver. He is 5-2, with a 3.36 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and the Red Sox are 5-0 in his last 5 starts against his old team. Boston is 20-6 in their last 26 trips to Toronto and they get it done tonight.
TONIGHT’S PICK: BOSTON RED SOX
