It took the Minnesota Twins 12 innings to get things done yesterday against the Oakland Athletics, but they did it, and they will go for two in a row today when the two clubs meet again in an early one at Ring Central Coliseum. All-Star José Berríos will be tapping the rubber for Minnesota and he has been lights out, going 8-4, with a 2.89 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and the Twins are 6-1 in his last 7 road starts. Oakland is expected to counter with Tanner Anderson and he has been getting lit up, going 0-3, with a bloated 7.13 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, and the Athletics are 0-4 in his last 4 starts. I like the Twins in this situation.

The New York Yankees fell to the New York Mets yesterday, 4-2, and chalk that up to a little bit of a hangover from playing in London over the weekend. The Yanks are expected to get one of their top flamethrowers, Domingo Germán, back from the IL today and his numbers are impressive, going 9-2 with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. The Metropolitans will counter with the lefty, Jason Vargas. He is 3-3 on the season, with a 3.66 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Vargas could be in for a rough night because the Yankees crush lefties. They are 5-0 in their last 5 against southies and 7-3 in their last 10 against the Mets in Queens.

The Boston Red Sox need to get back on track in a hurry, sitting 11 games back of the New York Yankees, and that will happen tonight when they pay a visit to Rogers Centre for a 3-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto will send Trent Thornton to the hill and his numbers aren’t good. Thornton is 2-5, with a 4.60 ERA, a 1.45 WHIP, and the Jays are 1-5 in his last 6 starts against the American League East. Boston will give the nod to David Price. Price is back to what he does best – deliver. He is 5-2, with a 3.36 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and the Red Sox are 5-0 in his last 5 starts against his old team.
