The Minnesota Twins will go for a series win against a pesky Kansas City Royals team when they conclude their 4-game set tonight at Target Field. Minnesota is without a doubt one of the elite teams in baseball and are tough at home, winning 7 of their last 8. Tonight they will face the southpaw Kris Bubic, who is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. The Twins crush left-handed pitching.

The San Diego Padres will look to end their 4-game skid today and will turn to Garrett Richards to throw strikes when they conclude a 3-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the desert. Richards has had success against the Snakes in his career, posting a 2-0 record with a stingy 1.80 ERA. Arizona is expected to counter with Robbie Ray. Ray is off to a dismal start, at 1-2, with a bloated ERA of 10.59 and a 2.12 WHIP. The Friars might be 0-9 in their last 9 visits to Chase Field but trends end.
TODAY’S PICK: SAN DIEGO PADRES

Lance Lynn pitched a gem last night at Coors Field and the Texas Rangers topped the Colorado Rockies, 3-2, to extend their winning streak to 3 games. Tonight they meet again and the Rockies will look to even the score when they send Germán Márquez to the hill. Márquez will have payback on his mind. He is 2-2, with a 2.08 ERA and a WHIP of only 0.92. The last time Márquez faced Texas, he took a no hitter into the 6th inning, only to end up taking the loss, and that hurts. The Rangers are expected to counter with Kyle Gibson. The ex-Twin has yet to win a game, at 0-2, with a 4.11 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP. Gibson was lit up in his last turn, allowing 9 hits and 4 runs in just 4-1/3 innings of work. Not good. Rocks get to Gibson.

The New York Yankees will be hosting the Boston Red Sox tonight and are expected to send Gerrit Cole to the rubber. Enough said.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES

The Baltimore Orioles will go for a series sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies today at Citizens Bank Park but not so fast. Jake Arrieta will be getting the nod for Philadelphia. Arrieta’s injuries over the past couple of years are behind him and when he is healthy he is also lethal. Arrieta is 1-1, with a 2.45 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and in his last outing against a potent Atlanta offense he was spectacular. The Beast yielded just 3 hits over 6 scoreless innings resulting in a Philly 5-0 victory. Baltimore is expected to counter with Tom Eshelman, who has yet to get a win but has decent numbers. He is 0-0 with a 3.68 ERA and a WHIP of 0.95 but had better be on the money today because Harper is hot and Hosner is due. The Orioles had luck on their side in the first 2 games, winning Game 1 by a 10-9 score and eking out the second matchup 5-4, but that luck ends today.
TODAY’S PICK: PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The young core of the Toronto Blue Jays have no issue playing at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, NY, their AAA affiliate ball park. They know it well and showed that last night by downing the Miami Marlins in the first game of a 2-game set. Toronto’s Nate Pearson will feel right at home tonight when he is handed the ball for his third Big League start. Pearson has been delivering as expected. He is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA and a WHIP of only 0.90. The Marlins are starting to spiral and their expected starter, Jordan Yamamoto, is not the answer. Yamamoto is 0-0 with an ERA of 9.00 and a 1.50 WHIP. Pearson will be extra motivated tonight to get his first Major League win and Vlady and company should have their way with Yamamoto.
TONIGHT’S PICK: TORONTO BLUE JAYS

The New York Yankees should have their tail between their legs after losing 3 of 4 to the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend at The Trop. Tonight however, they will be in the Bronx to host the Atlanta Braves and that is where good things happen. To say the Bombers dominate at Yankee Stadium would be an understatement. The Yanks are 42-14 in their last 56 at home. They will be playing a Braves team that was pummeled last night by the Philadelphia Phillies, 13-8, and have not fared well on the road with a record of 4-5. The Yankees had yesterday off to regroup and have won 5 of the last 6 meetings with the Braves.
