The Los Angeles Angels took 3 of 4 from the Oakland Athletics over the weekend and tonight they will be in Arlington to face the Texas Rangers. The 14-19 Rangers are better on the road then at home where they are just 7-12. They are expected to send Jon Gray the the rubber, who is 0-1 with a 5.51 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and if he is not on his mark, God’s Gift and company will jump all over him. The 24-13 Angels are 12-6 on the road and are expected to have Noah Syndergaard on the hill. Thor has been delivering. He is 3-1 with a 2.46 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. Los Angeles won 3 of 4 against Texas at Globe Life Field back in April and are 4-0 in their last 4 as a road favorite. The Angels are the better team, 1-9, and should take care of business tonight.
TONIGHT’S PICK: LOS ANGELES ANGELS

The Pittsburgh Pirates will try to salvage a split with the Cincinnati Reds when they wrap up their 4-game series today at PNC Park. The expected starter for the Pirates is southpaw José Quintana. The veteran is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and the Bucs are 4-1 in his last 5 starts. Quintana looked sharp in his last outing against a potent Dodgers offense, tossing 6 scoreless innings, resulting in a 5-1 Pirates win. The Reds are expected to send the hard throwing rookie, Hunter Greene, to the hill. Greene can throw 100+ but has had trouble finding the zone. He is 1-5 with a 7.62 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. Cincinnati has struggled against left-handed starters and if Quintana has his stuff like he did against the Dodgers, the Bucs get this one.
TODAY’S PICK: PITTSBURGH PIRATES

The 22-12 New York Mets lost a close one last night at home to the 15-18 Seattle Mariners, 2-1, but expect them to bounce back tonight at Citi Field when they play the middle game of their 3-game set. The Mets rarely lose two in a row and are 10-1 in their last 11 after scoring 2 runs or less in the previous game. The NL East leaders are expected to face Seattle’s George Kirby. Kirby looked sharp in his first Major League start on Sunday, pitching 6 scoreless innings against Tampa, but that was just one game and can he match that performance tonight? I doubt it. New York is expected to have Chris Bassitt toeing the rubber. He has been delivering for years and this year is no exception. Bassitt is 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. The Mariners are obviously a road dog and in this situation they are 3-11 in their last 14 and 0-4 in their last 4 following a win.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK METS

The best team in baseball, the New York Yankees, won another one last night, drilling the Chicago White Sox, 15-7, and have now won 4 straight and 16 of their last 18. Tonight they will resume their 4-game set with the White Sox on the south side and will have their ace, Gerrit Cole, on the hill. Cole’s numbers over his last 3 have been off the charts. He is 2-0 with a ridiculous ERA of 0.47 and a 0.95 WHIP, which could spell trouble for the White Sox who do not score a lot of runs, averaging just 3.65 per game. The Yankees have won 8 of the last 9 meetings with the Sox, are 5-1 in their last 6 at Guaranteed Rate Field, and are hot so you ride them ’til they are not.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES

The Los Angeles Dodgers return home tonight to take on the Philadelphia Phillies. To say the Dodgers have been dominant at Chavez Ravine would be an understatement. Not only are they 10-2 this year at home, they are 41-10 in their last 51. Tonight’s expected starter, lefty Tyler Anderson, should be able to keep Harper and company in check. Anderson is 3-0 with a 2.78 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and the Phillies are 1-8 in their last 9 road games against a left-handed starter. With all their talent, Philadelphia has been underachieving. They are upside down with a mark of 14-17 and just 5-8 on the road. Joe Girardi is expected to have Zack Wheeler toeing the rubber. Wheeler is 1-3 with a 4.10 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and Philadelphia is 1-5 in his last 6 starts. The Dodgers at home is always worth considering.
TONIGHT’S PICK: LOS ANGELES DODGERS

The Washington Nationals lost another one last night at Nationals Park, falling to the New York Mets, 4-2, and they are now just 3-12 on the season in DC. It won’t get any easier for them tonight when they host the Mets in the middle game of their 3-game set. With last night’s win, New York is 21-10 overall, with the most wins in the National League, and are 12-5 away from Citi Field. Tonight’s expected starters are Tylor Megill for the Mets and Aaron Sanchez for the Nats. Sanchez has been a hitter’s delight. He is 1-2 on the season with a 8.56 ERA, a 1.54 WHIP, and was lit up by the Rockies in his last turn, yielding 7 runs over 4-1/3 resulting in a 9-7 loss. New York’s Tylor Megill has been just the opposite. He is 4-1 with a 2.43 ERA, a WHIP of only 0.90, and the Mets are 6-1 in his last 7 starts. New York is obviously heavily favored but that’s okay. In this situation, they are 21-8 in their last 29 and 4-1 in their last 5 in Washington.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK METS

It took 16 tries but the Pittsburgh Pirates finally beat the Los Angeles Dodgers last night at PNC Park. Are they going to make it two in a row tonight against the NL West leaders? I doubt it. Los Angeles rarely loses back-to-back games and will have Tony Gonsolin toeing the rubber. Gonsolin has been throwing flames, with a record of 2-0, an ERA of only 1.64 and a 1.09 WHIP. On the flip side, Bryse Wilson will take the bump for the Bucs. Wilson had success in 2020 against the Dodgers in his only outing against them in the NLCS when he was a Brave, but not tonight. Wilson comes in at 0-1, with a 3.79 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. The Dodgers mustered just 1 run in yesterday’s loss which is a rarity for a team that is averaging over 5 runs per game.
