The Cleveland Guardians appeared to be dead in the water last night, down 3 runs in the 10th to the Minnesota Twins, but this team doesn’t quit. They came out and answered with 4 of their own and won the game, 7-6. Today the Guardians wrap up their 5-game set with the Twins in an early one at Progressive Field. Momentum will definitely be on Cleveland’s side and they will have their ace, Shane Bieber, on the hill. Bieber is off to a bit of a slow start but is still 3-4 with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. Minnesota will counter with the veteran, Chris Archer. Archer is 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. The Twins’ lead in the AL Central is dwindling. The Guardians are on their tail and they can smell blood.

The New York Yankees just keep winning baseball games and that’s what they will do today against the Oakland Athletics in a matinée at The Stadium. Jameson Taillon will be at the helm today for the Bombers. He is 8-1 with a 3.19 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. On the flip side, lefty Cole Irvin will be tapping the rubber for the Athletics. He is 2-5 with a 3.39 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP, and we know what the Yanks do to southies. New York is 33-9 in the Bronx and playing the worst team in the Majors.

The Baltimore Orioles are a team to keep your eye on and they proved it last night. Mountcastle and company took it to the Seattle Mariners, 9-2, and have now won 7 of their last 10. Tonight they will play the second game of their 3-game set at T-Mobile Park. On the hill will be lefty Robbie Ray for the Mariners and Dean Kremer for the upstart O’s. Kremer is 2-1 with a 1.17 ERA and Ray is 6-6 with a 4.07 ERA. Baltimore is 5-2 in their last 7 against a left-handed starter and win again. Take the underdog Orioles.
TONIGHT’S PICK: BALTIMORE ORIOLES

Baseball is all about pitching and the Texas Rangers have the edge tonight against the Kansa City Royals. Martín Pérez will be on the hill for Texas and Kris Bubic for the Royals, and numbers don’t lie. Pérez is 5-2 with a 1.96 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Bubic is 1-4, has an ERA that belongs in the minors at 7.41, and a 1.79 WHIP. The Rangers can smack the ball and get to Bubic tonight.
TONIGHT’S PICK: TEXAS RANGERS

Are the New York Yankees going to lose three straight against the cheaters? Highly unlikely. Nasty Nestor Cortés Jr. will have something to say about that. The lefty will be on the hill for New York. Cortés is 6-3 with a 2.31 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. The Bombers are 6-0 in his last 6 home starts and the Astros are 0-4 in their last 4 against a left-handed starter. The boys get it done today on River Ave.

Gerrit Cole will be fired up when he and his New York Yankees take on his old team, the Houston Astros, in an early one today in the Bronx. Cole is 6-1 and is coming off his best outing on the season. New York took it in the shorts yesterday but rarely lose two in a row and they are 30-8 at The Stadium. Enough said.

The Milwaukee Brewers will be host to a very dangerous and young Toronto Blue Jays team tonight for the first game of a 3-game set at American Family Field. Alek Manoah will be on the hill for the Jays. He is the next Roger Clemens, if there can be one. Manoah has presence and swagger. He is 8-2 with a 2.00 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP, and that gets things done. Adrian Houser will be tapping the rubber for the Brew Crew. Houser is upside down, at 4-7, with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. Toronto is 16-7 in their last 23 interleague games and are the side to consider.
