The Seattle Mariners shut down the Cleveland Guardians yesterday, 3-0, in their home opener at T- Mobile Park. Tonight they are expected to turn to their southpaw Robbie Ray in game 2 of their 4-game set. The former CY Young winner was a mediocre 12-12 last year with a 3.71 ERA but in his career against Cleveland he is 2-0 with a stingy ERA of only 0.90. Due to Triston McKenzie’s shoulder injury, Cleveland is expected to turn to Hunter Gaddis and his numbers are not good. In 2022, Gaddis was 0-2 with an 18.41 ERA, and that is not a typo. J-Rod and company should get to Gaddis early so I expect Francona will bring out the hook earlier than later. The Mariners are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Seattle with the Guardians and 5-0 in the last 5 meetings overall.
TONIGHT’S PICK: SEATTLE MARINERS
Month: March 2023
Thursday MLB Pick
The New York Yankees will be hosting the San Francisco Giants today in their home opener. Of course, Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will get the nod for the Bombers and was lights out this spring so expect another stellar year from the flame throwing right-hander. Young upstart Logan Webb is expected to be on the bump for the Giants. Webb just gets better and better each year and will be the Giants go-to guy in the 2023 campaign. New York is once again the favorite to win the AL East and for good reason. They have Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMaheiu, Anthony Rizzo, etc., etc., etc… San Francisco is coming off a disappointing year and already have some key guys on the IL, which is something they cannot afford. The Stadium will be electric as always, and of all the teams you would like to face opening day, it’s not the Yankees in the Bronx. The Giants and the Bombers don’t meet that often but when they do, New York usually wins.
TODAY’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES
Wednesday NHL Pick
As the regular season winds down, all games are crucial and none more than tonight’s matchup at Ball Arena with the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota has a 1-point lead over the Avs for the top spot in the Central so a win tonight for Colorado will catapult them into first place. With both teams clicking, this will be a hard fought battle but the Avalanche should come out on top. The Avs have won both meetings with the Wild this year, in Minnesota, and they are 4-0 in the last 4 against the Wild at Ball Arena.
TONIGHT’S PICK: COLORADO AVALANCHE
Tuesday NHL Pick
Two of the best in the west will square off tonight when the Vegas Golden Knights host the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams are clicking on every cylinder and last met on Saturday in Edmonton with Vegas winning a close one, 4-3. The Oilers will look to even the score tonight and should get it done. They are 5-2 in their last 7 meetings overall with the Golden Knights, 4-1 in their last 5 on the strip, and the road team usually prevails between these two clubs.
TONIGHT’S PICK: EDMONTON OILERS
Monday NHL Pick
The New York Islanders will be hosting the New Jersey Devils tonight in Elmont, NY. The Devils are dangerous on the road and that is a fact. New Jersey is 26-6-4 away from the Rock but are just 4-15 in their last 19 in New York. Unlike the Devils who have clinched a playoff spot, the Isles haven’t, so this game means a lot more to New York than it does New Jersey. The Islanders have played well at UBS Arena and are catching a Devils team that is 2-5 in their last 7 overall.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Sunday Men’s NCAA Basketball Pick
The San Diego State Aztecs and the Creighton Bluejays will meet in Louisville this afternoon to decide which team will advance to their first ever Final 4. The Aztecs did what no one expected on Friday, knocking off the heavily favored #1 seed Alabama, 71-64, and they did it with what they are famous for – defense. Creighton had a slightly easier road getting to this point, with a win over the pesky Princeton Tigers, 86-75. SDSU knows they can beat anybody they face. Their defense is relentless and will wear you down. If they contain Creighton’s big man, Ryan Kalkbrenner, they head to the Final 4. The Aztecs are currently getting 1.5 points and are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games.
TODAY’S PICK: SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS +1½
Saturday NHL Pick
With a win tonight at the Rock over the Ottawa Senators, the New Jersey Devils will clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2018. New Jersey has lost 5 of their last 6, including a 5-4 setback last night to the Buffalo Sabres. However, back-to-back games don’t seem to bother the Devils, who are 5-0 in their last 5 on zero day’s rest. The Devils have won both meetings with the Senators this year and Ottawa has not played well on the road. They are 15-19-2 and just 2-6 in their last 8. Hughes and company punch their ticket.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW JERSEY DEVILS
