The 61-65 New York Yankees finally got a win, after losing nine straight, by clobbering the visiting 58-69 Washington Nationals, 9-1, at the Stadium. Today in a matinée in the Bronx the two teams will wrap up their 3-game set. The Yankees will probably go with a bullpen game and the starter for the first leg is expected to be Michael King. He is 3-5 with a 3.26 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. The Nationals are expected to counter with southpaw Patrick Corbin. He is 8-11 with a 4.71 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, but has pitched well of late and is better than his record reflects. Despite one of their worst seasons in recent memory, the Bombers are still 36-32 at home. Aaron Judge smacked three homers yesterday, with one of them being a grand slam, and when he gets going so do the Yankees.

The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins will play the rubber game of their 3-game set this afternoon at Petco Park. The Friars have been the biggest disappointment in the Majors. With all their talent, they are just 60-67 and will probably miss the post-season. San Diego is 5-11 in their last 16 games and is expected to turn to Seth Lugo to get them on track. Lugo is 0-1 over his last 3 turns, with a 6.28 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. On the flip side, Miami is expected to hand the ball to last year’s NL Cy Young winner, Sandy Alcántara. The Sandman is getting back to his Cy Young form. Over his last 3 starts, Alcántara is 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. The Marlins took care of business last night, shutting out the Padres, 3-0, and are knocking on the door for a Wild Card spot so they need their ace to deliver. More than likely, he will.

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals will play the rubber game of their 3-game set tonight at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in the MLB Little League Classic. Tonight’s probable starting pitchers are Zack Wheeler for the Phillies and Trevor Williams for the Nats. Wheeler is 9-5 with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. Williams is 5-7 with a 5.20 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and Washington is 1-4 in his last 5 starts as an underdog. The Phillies have the edge in this one and clobbered the Nationals yesterday, 12-3. Why should tonight be any different?

The Texas Rangers have lost two straight but get back on track today when they play the middle game of their 3-game set with the Milwaukee Brewers.at Globe Life Field. Dane Dunning will be tapping the rubber for the Rangers. Dunning is 9-4 with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Freddy Peralta will get the nod for the Brewers. Peralta is 9-8 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Texas is tough at home, with a record of 42-22, and they rarely lose three in a row. Bruce Bochy will have his boys ready today.

The best team in the American League, the Baltimore Orioles, will visit the worst in the AL, the Oakland Athletics. The Orioles are 74-47 and 38-24 on the road. The bottom feeding Athletics are 34-87 and are expected to have the rookie, Luis Medina, on the hill. Medina is 3-8 with a 5.31 ERA. Baltimore is expected to counter with the veteran, Kyle Gibson. He is 11-7 with a 4.89 ERA, which is too high, but was lights out the last time he faced the Athletics, surrendering just one run over 6-1/3 innings of work, resulting in a 5-1 Baltimore win.

Will the Milwaukee Brewers get swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight at Chavez Ravine? Not with Corbin Burnes tapping the rubber for the Brew Crew. Burnes is 9-6 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. Lance Lynn will get the nod for the Dodgers. He is 9-9 with an elevated ERA of 5.88 and a 1.39 WHIP. The Brewers bats have been silent over the previous two games, but they should get to Lynn tonight.
