The Arizona Diamondbacks were bamboozled yesterday by the Milwaukee Brewers, 15-8, but they bounce back today. The D-backs ace, Zac Gallen, is expected to get the start for Arizona. Gallen is 12-6 with a 3.56 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He was lights out in his last turn against the champion Texas Rangers, yielding just two hits, no runs, and the Snakes went on to a 6-0 win. The Brewers are expected to send DL Hall to the rubber. Hall is 1-1 with a 4.01 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. The Diamondbacks, who are the best in the business at scoring runs, are going to feast on this guy.

Month: September 2024
Saturday MLB Pick
The New York Yankees are hot and will have their ace on the hill, Gerrit Cole, when they host the Boston Red Sox today in the Bronx. Enough said.
TODAY’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES
Friday MLB Pick
The 85-62 New York Yankees and the 74-73 Boston Red Sox will play the second game of their 4-game set tonight at the Stadium. The Bombers took game 1 last night in extras (2-1) and have now won 3 straight against their archrival. New York is expected to give the nod to Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt is 5-3 with a 2.34 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and was in the zone in his first start after being activated from the IL, yielding just 4 hits against the Cubs with no runs and the Yankees went on to a 2-0 victory. Boston is expected to counter with Tanner Houck, who has been getting lit up. Over his last 3 starts, Houck is 0-2 with an elevated ERA of 5.29 and a 1.29 WHIP. The best player in baseball, Yankee Aaron Judge, is homerless in his last 16 games but that ends tonight.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES
Thursday MLB Pick
The Seattle Mariners will open a 4-game set tonight at T-Mobile Park with their AL West rival Texas Rangers. The 74-72 Mariners still have a shot of catching Houston for the top spot in the AL West, sitting just 3½ games back and will turn to Bryce Miller tonight to get the job done. Miller is 11-8 with a 3.18 ERA and over his last 3 he has been dealing. He is 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA, a WHIP of just 0.79, and in his last turn against the Cardinals he pitched 6 scoreless innings, yielding only 3 hits, resulting in a Mariners 6-1 victory. The 70-76 Rangers lost their last two games against Arizona and were outscored over that span, 20-4. Not good. Texas is expected to send Kumar Rocker to the hill. Rocker will be making his Major League debut. The Mariners swept the Rangers at T-Mobile back in June. They are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and an impressive 42-29 at home.
TONIGHT’S PICK: SEATTLE MARINERS
Wednesday MLB Pick
The Cleveland Guardians will go for a series sweep over the Chicago White Sox when they wrap up their 3-game set this afternoon on the south side. The 83-62 Guardians hold a 3½ game lead over the Kansas City Royals for the lead in the AL Central so they cannot afford to lose to the pathetic Chicago White Sox. The 33-113 White Sox are in line to surpass the 1962 New York Mets for the most losses in modern baseball history and are not even worth discussing. The Guardians have the edge in every conceivable category and should come out on top today.
TODAY’S PICK: CLEVELAND GUARDIANS
Tuesday MLB Pick
With last night’s 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, the New York Mets continue to surge and have now won 10 of their last 11. Tonight they will go for a series win when the two clubs meet in the second game of the 3-game set. The 79-65 Mets, who have a one game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the final NL Wild Card spot, will turn to David Peterson to keep it rolling and he is up to the challenge. The left-handed flamethrower is 9-1 with a 2.75 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. In his last outing against the Boston Red Sox, Peterson allowed just 1 run on 6 hits with 11 strikeouts and the Mets cruised to a 7-2 victory. The 68-77 Blue Jays have had yet another disappointing season. With all their talent they should not be in this situation, but they are, and the problem is obviously manager John Schneider who needs to go. Tonight, they will send Chris Bassitt to the hill. Bassitt has not lived up to his potential. He comes in at 9-13 with a 4.30 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and in his last start against the Phillies, Bassitt gave up 4 runs on 10 hits resulting in a 10-9 Jays’ loss. New York has played well on the road with a record of 39-31 and Toronto will be without Bo Bichette and probably slugger Vlad Guerrero.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK METS
Monday MLB Pick
The NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies will look to get back in the Win column when they host the Tampa Bay Rays tonight in the start of a 3-game set at Citizens Bank Park. The 85-58 Phillies were embarrassed over their last two games by the inept Miami Marlins, losing both by a combined score of 19-6. Tonight however they get back on track. The 71-72 Rays have lost their last three meetings with the Phillies and are expected to give the start to Cole Sulser for the first leg of which will probably be a bullpen game for Tampa. Sulser is 0-0 with a 4.35 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and he had better be in the zone or Harper and Schwarber will make him pay. Philadelphia is not in the habit of losing three straight and the Phillies’ expected starter, lefty Christopher Sánchez, will make sure of that. Sánchez is 10-9 with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He was sharp in his last outing against Toronto where he yielded 6 hits and 2 runs over 7 innings, resulting in a 4-2 Philly victory. Philadelphia is an impressive 47-25 at The Vault and are 10-1 in Sánchez’s last 11 home starts against a team with a losing record.
TONIGHT’S PICK: PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
