The Arizona Diamondbacks took Game 1 of their 3-game set with the Washington Nationals with a 3-2 victory last night at Nationals Park. Arizona has now won 4 straight and 6 of their last 7 but they will be challenged today with the Nationals’ expected starter, lefty Foster Griffin, getting the nod. To say Griffin has been in the zone would be an understatement. He is 11-2 with an ERA of only 2.69 and a 1.03 WHIP. Griffin has not lost a game since May 14th and over his last 8 starts he has not allowed more than 1 run. The last time he faced Arizona on June 5th he allowed just 1 run on 2 hits and Washington rolled to a 14-1 victory. The Nationals are first in the majors with runs scored, first in home runs, and should send the Diamondbacks’ expected starter, southpaw Mitch Bratt, packing early. Bratt is 0-0 with an elevated ERA of 5.06 and a 1.78 WHIP over just 10.2 innings of work.
