If the Pittsburgh Pirates want to keep pace in the wild card hunt, then they better start winning some games and that will happen today when they send the ex-Yankee Ivan Nova to the hill to face Jimmy Nelson and the Milwaukee Brewers. Since joining the Bucs, Nova is a perfect 4-0 with a 2.87 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. Nelson’s numbers are not impressive. He is 7-13, with an ERA of 4.45, and a WHIP of 1.51. The Bucs are 5-0 in Nova’s last 5 starts and they snap their 4-game skid today.

The American League East leading Toronto Blue Jays take it on the arches tonight when they travel to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Rays. Marcus Stroman is taking the hill for the Jays and he has been steady, owning a record of 9-5, a 4.58 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Tampa will send Alex Cobb to the bump. Cobb is making his first big league start since coming back from Tommy John surgery. Cobb struggled in the minors, going 0-3 with an ERA of 6.65 in 21-2/3 innings and that’s not good. The Jays will feast on Cobb tonight.

I like another road favorite tonight the Ottawa RedBlacks, who will face the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. The numbers on the road for Ottawa are impressive. The RedBlacks are 3-1-0, 6-1 ATS in their last 7, and they are averaging 33.0 points per game and allowing 25.0. On flip side, Montreal has struggled at home, owning a 1-4-0 record, averaging just 19.4 points per game and allowing 26.4. The Alouettes are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 overall. In the last 6 meetings with the Alouettes, the RedBlacks are 5-1 ATS.
