Toronto and Buehrle looks like a good play today. He’s been sharp over his last 3 with an ERA of 1.23 and a WHIP of 1.00. He’s going for his 12th win of the year which would tie King Felix and Keuchel for the most wins in the AL. He’s 14-4 against AL West and the Jays are 5-1 in Buehrle’s last 5 starts. On the flip side, Walker for the Mariners has an ERA of 9.39 and a WHIP of 1.37 over his last 3 games. Joey Bats and company could light this guy up. Fairchild’s behind home plate and the Jays are 4-0 in his last 4 Sunday games and the Mariners are 5-12 in their last 17 when he’s umping.

My play today is the Royals with Duffy against the Astros and Feldman. Royals are 4-1 in Duffy’s last 5 starts and 12-4 in his last 16 as a home favorite. He’s been sharp over his last 3 outings with an ERA of 1.33 and a WHIP of 1.08. Feldman over his last 3 has an ERA of 4.58 and a WHIP of 1.64. Gibson’s behind home plate and in his last 6 Saturday games, the home teams are 5-1.

Looking at the Nationals as a good play today against the home team Pirates. Scherzer is on the hill for the Nationals and was one strike short of a perfect game the last time he faced the Pirates. Nats are 7-1 in their last 8 meetings against the Pirates. The lefty Locke is pitching for the Bucs and the Nats can hit lefties. They are 11-5 in their last 16 against southpaws. Pirates are 1-4 in Locke’s last 5 against a team with a winning record, and 1-5 in the last 6 when he has 4 days rest. I ilke the Nationals in this one.

Padres look like a good play tonight at home against the Marlins. Tyson Ross is on the hill for the Padres and he has been sharp. Over his last 3 starts, his ERA is 1.76 and his WHIP is 0.98. Padres are 10-4 in Ross’s last 14 home starts and 4-0 over his last 4 against a team with a losing record. Miami is not a good road team with a 16-32 record. They have not fared well in San Diego and have lost 6 out of their last 7 at Petco. Padres should win this game.

Tough loss for Detroit but I think they’ll bounce back tonight at home against the Mariners. Seattle has Montgomery starting and the Tigers can hit lefties. They are 36-16 in their last 52 at home against southpaws. Sanchez takes the mound tonight for the Tigers. The Tigers are 7-0 in his last 7 starts. Guccione is behind home plate and the Tigers are 21-8 in his last 29 games umping.

Rays look like a good play today. Phillies are debuting their top prospect Nola and have been hot of late – winning their last 4 – but I think it ends today. Phillies are 9-21 in their last 30 interleague games vs. a right-handed pitcher. The Rays are 13-6 in their last 19 interleague games. The Rays bats have been silent but I think they’ll get it going today against the rookie. Barrett is umping behind home plate and the road teams are 11-5 in his last 16 games. Phillies third baseman Franco is doubtful today with a sore elbow. Tampa Bay should win this game.

Look for Arizona to snap their 6 game losing streak at home tonight against the Marlins. Marlins are dismal on the road with a 14-31 record. Phelps takes the mound for the Marlins tonight and has been shaky lately with 2-7 record. In Miami’s last 5 meetings in Arizona, they are 1-4. Couple all of this with a cross-country flight, Arizona should get the win.
