The Texas Rangers and the Washington Nationals will play the rubber game of their 3-game set today in DC. The Rangers lost yesterday’s matchup, 8-3, but will bounce back today when they send their ace and one of the best in the business, Dane Dunning, to the hill. Dunning has been delivering all year. He is 8-1 with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. The Nats are expected to counter with lefty Patrick Corbin and he has been just the opposite. Corbin is 5-10 with a 5.13 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. In his last turn against the Reds, Corbin was scorched for 6 runs on 10 hits resulting in an 8-4 loss and that doesn’t bode well against a Rangers team that scores more runs than any other club in the Majors.
TODAY’S PICK: TEXAS RANGERS

The Houston Astros have lost the first two games of their 4-game set with the Seattle Mariners but should get back on track tonight at Minute Maid Park. The ‘Stros rarely lose three in a row and will have their ace, All-Star Framber Valdez, on the hill. Valdez is 7-6 with a 2.49 ERA and a WHIP of 1.05 over 105 innings of work. The Mariners are expected to send Bryan Woo to the hill. He is 1-1 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP over 28.2 innings of work. Houston is 5-0 in Valdez’s last 5 home starts and despite being without José Altuve and Yordan Álvarez, they still have the edge in runs per game, run differential, batting average, hits per game, and homers.
TONIGHT’S PICK: HOUSTON ASTROS

The Cincinnati Reds will go for their sixth straight win when they travel to American Family Field tonight to open a 3-game set with the Milwaukee Brewers. The NL Central leading Reds have played well on the road, with a record of 26-18, and will have lefty Andrew Abbott on the hill. Abbott’s numbers are off the charts. He is perfect, at 4-0, with a nasty 1.21 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP. The Brewers, who trail the Reds by two games, will send Corbin Burnes to the hill. He is not the dominant hurler he has been in the past. Burnes is 6-5 with a 4.10 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Milwaukee is 2-5 in their last 7 home games against a left-handed starter and with a guy like Abbott on the hill it could spell trouble. The Reds are hot. Ride them ’til they are not.
TONIGHT’S PICK: CINCINNATI REDS

Yesterday’s game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox was postponed. Today they will play a double-header. Nothing has changed from yesterday’s blog. The pitching matchup remains the same, José Berríos (TOR) vs. Lance Lynn (CWS), and the pick remains the same.
TODAY’S PICK: TORONTO BLUE JAYS – GAME 1

With last night’s 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays have now won 5 straight against the boys from the Southside. Tonight they will play the middle game of their 3-game set and Toronto will send José Berríos to the hill. Berríos is 8-6 with a 3.74 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He last faced the White Sox on April 25th, threw 7 scoreless innings, and the Jays cruised to a 7-0 victory. Berríos is also 13-6 in his career against the White Sox with a 3.26 ERA. Lance Lynn is expected to get the call for Chicago. He is 5-8 with a 6.47 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. In his career against Toronto, Lynn is 2-4 with a 4.58 ERA. Vlady and company have no issues when it comes to hitting and will get to Lynn tonight.

The New York Yankees always take care of business when they face the Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx and today will be no different. Kyle Gibson will take the hill for the Orioles. Over hist last 3 starts, Gibson is 0-2 with a bloated ERA of 9.22 and a 1.83 WHIP. On the flip side, the Yankees will have Clarke Schmidt tapping the rubber. Schmidt is 1-0 over his last 3 turns and has a 2.83 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. Consider the Bombers.
TODAY’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES

The Miami Marlins will open a 4-game set tonight with the St. Louis Cardinals at LoanDepot Park. The Marlins have lost three in a row but get back on track tonight. Miami is 48-37 overall and 25-16 at home. St. Louis is 35-48 and 18-23 on the road. Tonight’s expected starters are lefty Braxton Garrett for the Fish and Miles Mikolas for the Cardinals. Garrett is 4-2 with a 3.53 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Mikolas is 4-5 with a 4.44 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and the Cardinals are 2-5 in their last 7 against a left-handed starter. Advantage: Marlins.
