The Minnesota Twins will try to slow down the red hot San Francisco Giants when they play the middle game of their 3-game set tonight at Target Field. The Giants are 6-1 in their last 7 and won the opener, 4-1, but are still just 8-13 on the road. They will have to face the Twins ace, Sonny Gray, and that is always difficult. Gray is a perfect 4-0 with a 1.64 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. The Giants will send Alex Cobb to the hill and he has also been dealing. Cobb is 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. The Twins have only 2 wins in their last 7 games but 4 of those losses came on the road and they are a different team in Minneapolis. Minnesota is 14-9 at Target Field and 4-0 in their last 4 in game 2 of a series.

The 25-22 Toronto Blue Jays will open a 4-game set with the 34-14 Tampa Bay Rays tonight in St. Pete. Toronto has lost 4 straight but should get back on track with Chris Bassitt tapping the rubber. Over his last 3 starts, Bassitt has been almost unhittable with an ERA of 0.00 and a 0.70 WHIP. On the flip side, it appears Kevin Cash will go with a bullpen game with Trevor Kelley getting the first leg. Kelley is 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Toronto is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings with Tampa and the Jays heavy hitters are due.

Cincinnati’s expected starter is Luke Weaver and the Yankees are licking their chops. He is 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. New York has yet to announce a starter for today’s game but it doesn’t matter.

The Houston Astros are on a roll, winners of their last 4 and 6 of their last 7. Tonight they should have no problem taking care of business at home against the pathetic Oakland Athletics. The A’s are 5-15 on the road and will have Ken Waldichuk on the hill. He is 1-2 with a 7.02 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP. Enough said. Take the Champs.
TONIGHT’S PICK: HOUSTON ASTROS

The 28-15 Baltimore Orioles are for real and will go for another series win when they wrap up their 4-game set with the 22-22 Los Angeles Angels in a matinée today at Camden Yards. The Orioles’ dominance over the Angels continued last night with a 3-1 victory and they are now 12-2 against the Halos in the last 14 meetings. Tyler Wells will be called upon to throw strikes for Baltimore. He is 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA and a WHIP of just 0.72. LA will counter with lefty Tyler Anderson, who is 1-0 with an elevated ERA of 5.26 and a 1.62 WHIP. The Orioles are 15-7 at the Yard and 9-2 in their last 11 against a left-handed starter.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have come back down to earth and are showing who they really are – a mediocre team at best. After getting blanked 4-0 by the Detroit Tigers yesterday, the Bucs are now 2-12 over their last 14 games. It won’t get any easier for Pittsburgh when they play the second game of their 3-game set with Detroit in an early one today at Comerica Park. The Tigers ace, Eduardo Rodríguez, is expected to get the nod and he has been throwing flames. Rodríguez is 4-2 with an ERA of just 1.57, a 0.79 WHIP, and over his last 6 starts he has yielded only 2 runs. Now that is dominance! Detroit has won 2 straight and is 7-0 in their last 7 interleague home games.
