Two hot teams will butt heads tonight when the St. Louis Blues pay a visit to PNC Arena for a match-up with the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina is 8-2 in their last 10, have won 3 straight, and are coming off a 6-1 trouncing of the Los Angeles Kings in their last outing. St. Louis is also 8-2 over their last 10 but have lost their last 2 on the road. The Blues have dominated the Hurricanes in the past, but that was then and this is now. The Canes will have the edge in goaltending, offense, defense, and let’s not leave out the home ice advantage.

The Washington Capitals fell to the Buffalo Sabres yesterday, 5-2, but return home today for a matinée against a team they’ve been dominating, the New York Rangers. The Caps have won 4 straight against the Rangers and are 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings. Ovi and company get it done today.

The St. Louis Blues have won 10 straight but all good things must come to an end and tonight they will host the Toronto Maple Leafs who get it done on the road. Toronto is 19-8-2 on the road and are a good value at +105.

Two last place teams will square off tonight at United Center when the Chicago Blackhawks host the Ottawa Senators. Even though the Blackhawks sit dead last in the Central division, they still have a legitimate shot to make it to the playoffs but they need to start stringing together some wins if they want to see the post-season and they know it. The Senators are coming off a win against Winnipeg but that still gives them just 8 road victories and they have struggled miserably against the Blackhawks. Chicago has won the last 4 matchups against Ottawa and 8 of the last 9 against them at home.
TONIGHT’S PICK: CHICAHO BLACKHAWKS

The Ottawa Senators have mustered only 7 wins on the road this year and will need all the luck they can get tonight when they face the Winnipeg Jets on their home ice. When the Jets lace up at Bell MTS Place, good things usually happen – they win. Winnipeg is 27-7-3 at home this season and 64- 23 in their last 87. Now that’s impressive. Winnipeg has won 4 of the last 5 meetings with Ottawa but fell to the Sens in Ottawa just last week, 5-2, so it’s payback time for the Jets.

The Calgary Flames have lost 3 straight and they know they had better right the ship soon if they want to keep pace with the red hot San Jose Sharks for the top spot in the Pacific Division. Tonight they will get an opportunity to do just that when they pay a visit to BB&T Center for a match-up with the Florida Panthers. The Flames have been impressive on the road, with a record of 17-11-1. They have dominated the Panthers, winning 5 of the last 6 meetings overall and 4 of their last 5 trips to Sunrise, Florida. The Panthers are slumping as well, losing their last 2 games, both at home, so this is a golden opportunity for Calgary to pounce and get back in the win column. TONIGHT’S PICK: CALGARY FLAMES

The Washington Capitals disposed of the Los Angeles Kings last night, 6-4, and tonight they will be a road dog when they take their game to Nationwide Arena for a match-up with the Columbus Blue Jackets. After losing 5 straight, John Tortorella has his Blue Jackets playing well, winners of their last 3, so this will be a challenge for the Caps but they are up for it. Washington has been very respectable on the road, with a record of 14-9-2. The Caps are 5-2 in their last 7 meetings with the Jackets and 4-0 in their last 4 trips to Columbus. If fatigue isn’t a factor for Washington, they have a good chance of coming away from Columbus with a win.
