The Mountain West Champion San Diego State Aztecs will take their 14-game winning streak into Hinkle Fieldhouse tonight to face the Syracuse Orange. The 23-4 Aztecs offense is led by the Mountain West player of the year, Matt Mitchell. They average 74.4 points per game and, as always, have a stellar defense, allowing a stingy 60.1 points per game. The 16-9 Orange average 75.6 points per game, allow an average of 70.8, and were 13-1 at home, but when not playing at the Carrier Dome they were just 3-8. The Aztecs head coach, Brian Dutcher, might get overshadowed by the Q’s Jim Boeheim, but he shouldn’t. In his first four years with the Aztecs, they are 96-30. Impressive.

The 9-13-1-3 New Jersey Devils, who are just 3-10-0-2 at home, finally got a win at Prudential Center on Tuesday but it was against the pathetic bottom dwelling Buffalo Sabres – nothing to get excited about. Tonight the Devils will host the 18-10-1-0 Pittsburgh Penguins and will have their work cut out for them. The Penguins have been hot, winning 6 of their last 7, and usually prevail when they are the favorite, going 14-2 in their last 16. Pittsburgh could be without one of their top performers, Evgeni Malkin, but it shouldn’t matter against a Devils team that is just 1-4 in their last 5 and 2-9 in their last 11 overall.

The St. Louis Blues are in a funk but look for them to get back in the win column tonight when they head to Staples Center to face the Los Angeles Kings. The Blues have lost 4 straight but 3 of those losses were in overtime, including one to the Kings on March 6th. St. Louis has not been getting it done at home, but have played well on the road, with a record of 10-2-2. LA has also been struggling, losing 2 straight, and are just 3-4-3 in their last 10. I like the Blues in this situation.
