The AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays will go for a sweep of the last place Baltimore Orioles when they wrap up their 3-game set in a matinée today in St. Pete. The Rays rarely lose at home, with a record of 18-5, and are expected to give the nod to Jesse Scholtens, who is 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. The Orioles are a dismal 9-16 away from Birdland and are expected to send Shane Baz to the bump. His numbers are not good. The ex-Ray is 1-5 with a 5.26 ERA, a 1.52 WHIP, and Baltimore is 1-7 in his last 8 starts. The Rays are the side to consider here.

The Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins will play the rubber game of their 3-game set in an early one today at the Trop. The Rays fell to the Marlins yesterday, 10-5, but will bounce back today. Drew Rasmussen is on the hill for Tampa. Rasmussen is 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA and a WHIP of only 0.91. The Marlins are expected to counter with Eury Pérez who is 2-5 with an elevated 4.94 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Tampa has the edge in runs per game, batting average, hits, homers and Miami is 0-4 in Pérez’s last 4 starts.

The Detroit Tigers will host the Toronto Blue Jays in a matinée today at Comerica Park. Detroit took care of business yesterday in Game 1 of their 3-game set and will do it again today. The Tigers are 13-6 at home and will have Casey Mize on the hill. He has a 2.90 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. You can’t ask for anything better than that.

The best team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves, will open a 3-game set tonight against the Boston Red Sox at Truist Park. The Braves lost their last outing against the Chicago Cubs but they are not in the habit of losing two in a row. Atlanta is 14-7 at home and will have Spencer Strider on the hill and he has been delivering. He comes in at 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP.
