The New York Yankees are on a roll and will be in SoCal tonight to open a 3-game set with the San Diego Padres. The Yankees have won 2 straight and 4 of their last 5. Their expected starter for tonight is lefty Max Fried and his numbers speak for themselves. Fried is 4-4 with an excellent ERA of only 2.80 and a WHIP to match at 1.00. The Friars are slumping and that is not good when you are on the outside looking in for a wild card spot with only 22 games left. They have lost 2 straight, 5 of their last 6, and are expected to send Walker Buehler to the bump. Buehler is 8-6 with an elevated 4.66 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. The Bombers have played well on the road at 43-29 and usually get the better of the Padres, winning 6 of the last 8 meetings.
TONIGHT’S PICK: NEW YORK YANKEES

The New York Yankees were lit up by the Los Angeles Angels last night in Anaheim, but they will bounce back tonight. Gerrit Cole is the scheduled starter for the Yankees. He is 7-7 with a respectable ERA of 3.19 and a 1.07 WHIP. The Angels are expected to counter with Grayson Rodriguez. He is 4-5 with a 6.03 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP, and the Bombers will crush him.

The Tampa Bay Rays will be at home tonight to take on the New York Mets. The Rays have the best home record in the American League and are expected to have southpaw Ian Seymour on the hill. He is 9-5 with a 4.21 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. The expected starter for New York is Robert Stock and Tampa will light this guy up. Stock is 0-3 with a bloated ERA of 7.40 and a 1.94 WHIP. Not good. The Tampa Bay Rays will take care of business tonight at the Trop.

The Philadelphia Phillies are on the verge of sweeping the Los Angeles Angels today at Angels Stadium and they should do it. Philadelphia is expected to have Zack Wheeler on the hill and he is due for a big win. The Phillies ace has struggled over his last couple of outings but he is still 10-5 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will play a day/night double-header today in the Bronx. More often than not teams split double-headers so whoever loses Game 1 should win Game 2.
