Thursday NHL Pick

The Washington Capitals will be at full strength tonight when they host the New York Islanders. Alex Ovechkin returns tonight after serving his one game suspension for snubbing the all star game and Braden Holtby is expected between the pipes after having a day off on Tuesday. The Capitals are on a rare 2-game skid and the Islanders should be the cure for this. The Capitals are 6-3-1 in their last 10 versus New York, and the Islanders are just 1-5 in their last 6 at Verizon Center. Alex Ovechkin has faced the Islanders 38 times in his career and he has been spectacular, scoring 27 goals with 15 assists. Ovechkin should be hungry tonight. I like the Caps in this one.

Tonight’s pick:

Washington Capitals

Wednesday NHL Pick

The Colorado Avalanche stay in California and travel south to Staples Center tonight to take on the Los Angeles Kings. Colorado is playing back-to-back games after taking a complete thumping by the San Jose Sharks last night. The Avalanche haven’t done well at Staples Center, with a 1-5 record in the last 6 games. Jonathan Quick is expected between the pipes tonight for the Kings and that usually represents a win.

Tonight’s pick:

Los Angeles Kings

Tuesday NHL Pick

Toronto travels south tonight to Sunrise, Florida to take on the red hot Panthers. The Florida Panthers are hitting on every cylinder after shutting out the Chicago Blackhawks with a 4-0 win on Friday and a 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. The Panthers are 9-1 in their last 10 home games and the Maple Leafs are 1-5 in their last 6 meetings with Florida. Luongo is expected between the pipes for Florida. The Panthers should win this one.

Today’s pick:

Florida Panthers

Tuesday NHL Pick

Impressive win last night for the Edmonton Oilers, knocking off Florida 4-2 but it didn’t come without a price. One of the Oilers’ top producers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins took a puck to his hand and is listed as day-to-day. Edmonton stays in Florida tonight and visits Amalie Arena to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. They’ve had trouble in Tampa Bay, going 1-5 in their last 6 meetings there. Siding with the red hot Lightning tonight who have won 5 straight.

Tonight’s pick:

Tampa Bay Lightning

Friday NHL Pick

The Winnipeg Jets play back-to-back games tonight and take their dismal 8-14-2 road record into Minneapolis tonight, to take on the Wild. The Wild are 14-7-2 at home. They’ve lost 2 in a row and I think they right the ship tonight.

Tonight’s pick:

Minnesota Wild

Sunday NHL Hockey Picks

This could be an upset special today. Colorado Avalanche are 5-0 in their last 5 in Chicago. It’s worth a shot.

The Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings square off tonight in Honda Center. Detroit has not done well in Anaheim. They’re 0-4 in their last 4 meetings and 41-19-1 in their last 61 overall against the Ducks.

Today’s picks:

Colorado Avalanche
Anaheim Ducks

Saturday NHL Picks

Minnesota takes their dismal 7-6-6 road record to Dallas today. These two clubs met on December 21 and the Stars won 6-3. The Wild are 4-22 in their last 26 in Dallas and 1-4 in their last 5 meetings. Stars will light it up tonight.

Toronto is in San Jose tonight and I see Sharks getting a rare home win. The Leafs are 1-10 in their last 11 meetings and 1-4 in their last 5 at the SAP Center. Sharks tonight.

Today’s picks:

Dallas Stars
San Jose Sharks
